To Be Healthy Mentally And Emotionally Requires Some Work
One of the reasons why so few people, in this society, are healthy, is because physical health is all they think about. If you listen to most people about health, they consider physical exercise first and then the right foods next. It is too bad, that people are more concerned with how they look from an exterior point of view. Emotional health, as well as mental health, are both necessary to be completely healthy. People are able to control their own feelings, even if they believe they can't. Your mental and emotional health can be made better as long as you are willing to do small changes. Some of the things you can do are the following things.
Medication is not the answer for everything. While it is true that if your psychiatrist or counselor believes that you would benefit from antidepressants or other medications that are meant to balance your mental chemical makeup you need to follow your doctor's orders, it is also true that lots of over the counter mood elevators and all illegal drugs should be avoided. Drugs will permanently alter the brain, and that is why they work, but it might also be why they cause so many side-effects, and cause such a problem when you try to quit taking them. It might be time to get professional help, if you have been using self-medication with non-prescription drugs, and not having any success.
In some ways, your mental health will be determined by your exercise and diet. Proper nutrients are necessary for good brain or mind health, and physical fitness increases oxygen to all of your body. Serotonin and endorphin levels in your body system can be raised higher through exercise and eating certain foods on a regular basis. Two enzymes that are important for brain function are serotonin and endorphins, which make your wellness and happiness feelings increase. Most people have no idea how their life is affected by what they eat, and how much they exercise. Your exercise doesn't need to be any more than a ten minute walk.
Do not spend all of your time alone. You need someone in your life, who you can reach out to, and tell them how you are feeling, when you are feeling down or lonely. Sometimes the best thing you can do for another person, is to listen to them, never thinking about giving advice, but just being there to listen and give support is enough. One way to help you work through your feelings, is to voice them. The last thing to do when you are down, is what most people do instead, and that is isolate yourself. There is plenty of help from the people who love you. Don't let your pride get in the way of your emotional or mental health.
Usually people think about an exercise program to improve their health, or change the food they eat. We forget that having good mental and emotional health is just as important as having good physical health. What good is there in working hard to be physically fit, if you can't enjoy it, because your emotions are out of whack, or your mind is messed up. Information is the key to proper mental health or emotional health, and these tips are only a start. A mental health professional will want to put you on drugs, so if you don't want that, you better try as many other things first.
